Layshaft, AMC Norton

Gearbox layshaft. Suitable for all 4-speed Norton and AMC gearboxes with kickstart.

Overall length: 5.85″ (150mm)

This shaft is made using top quality steel, and is stronger than earlier shafts. It does not have the deep undercut groove, often seen on the ground diameter, where it butts up to the spline. This groove is there only to assist with the grinding operation. It eliminates the frequency of wheel dressing necessary when grinding to a shoulder. Fine on early gearboxes, but when the engines got larger and torque increased, shafts could snap, even on standard 850 road bikes.
